Cooking is love

Feeding people is one of the plainest ways to love them, and it brings them to the table.

The belief

Cooking is love. If loving is living, and cooking is life, then cooking is love. You bring the family together with food: a snack, a cookie, something sweet. People grab a plate, sit at the table, and talk.

Where it comes from

I said it into a voice memo in 2022, in Spanish, and I’d said a version of it in English two years earlier: that cooking is a sort of love, and it gives you time to meditate, to appreciate what you have, and to plan the day.

How it shows up for me

I cook almost every day. It’s where I think, and it’s how I show care without having to find the right words.

The funny part is that I didn’t start cooking for love. And the food only does its job if people aren’t on their phones at the table, which in my house is its own battle.
