Concept

Radical truth

Seeing and saying things as they are, without distorting or softening, and still moving with care.

What it is

Radical truth is the unfiltered pursuit and communication of reality: no lying, distorting, softening or avoiding, even when it’s uncomfortable. It’s an inner discipline, how you see yourself and the world, and an outer one, how you speak and act. That includes zero tolerance for deceiving yourself.

It isn’t cruelty, and it isn’t truth used as a weapon. The mature form isn’t brutal honesty as a pose. It’s seeing things as they are and still moving with care.

How it shows up for me

One version I was handed said truth should win over relationships when they conflict. I don’t believe that. I think the truth is usually what makes the relationship possible, and when it isn’t, care decides how and when I say it, not whether.
