What it is
Kudaranai (くだらない) is Japanese for “worthless,” “trivial,” “it doesn’t matter.” It’s an everyday word, a little dismissive, like shrugging something off as silly.
I use it for a specific state: a checked-out neutrality where nothing seems worth caring about, so nothing can hurt.
How it shows up for me
It can pass for peace, and it isn’t. When I go kudaranai, I’m not calm, I’m absent. The difference is that peace still cares. Kudaranai has decided not to.
