What it is
When you hold power accountable, name the people and institutions involved and what each one did. Blaming an entire people hides the actual actors, and it includes people who did nothing.
A simple rewrite: replace the group label with “the people who,” then finish the sentence with specific people, specific acts and evidence. If all you have is the name of a group, you don’t have an accusation against a person yet.
How it shows up for me
It’s how I try to write about politics and power. “Billionaires” becomes a name and a decision. “Men” becomes the men who did a specific thing. It’s harder, and it’s fairer, and it usually makes the argument stronger.
