Concept

Timing

When you control the pace and order of events, you shape how they unfold.

What it is

Rhythm and timing matter as much as the plan. After Franklin Roosevelt was elected, with the economy heading for a meltdown, he said almost nothing about his plans and refused to commit with the outgoing president. The suspense built. The moment he was sworn in, he moved fast, putting the pieces in place in what became known as the Hundred Days, and it changed the country’s mood.

What you do matters. How and when you do it can matter just as much.

How it shows up for me

At work, I’ve learned that the same proposal can fail on a Friday and pass on a Tuesday. At home, the right conversation at the wrong time is the wrong conversation.
