Autonomy

The freedom I want for myself, I owe to everyone else.

What it is

Being the author of your own choices. Not “nobody tells me what to do,” but “I take responsibility for what I do with my life.”

How it shows up for me

I once said autonomy and freedom were my number one and number two values, for me and for everyone around me. I still believe that. It’s why I don’t like controlling people, and why I hate being controlled. It also shows up in my friendships, which are the one kind of relationship where I get to be 100% myself. Autonomy doesn’t mean doing everything alone. It means owning my part.
