Questions are the root of knowledge

Every piece of human knowledge started as a question. Without questions there is no progress.

The belief

The root of all human knowledge is questions. Every answer we have started as somebody asking something. Without questions there’s no progress, and in a way, no humanity.

Where it comes from

I’ve always been the kid, and then the adult, who asks one more question. I said it out loud in a conversation in 2025 and realized it was the thing underneath my curiosity.

How it shows up for me

I try to ask before I assume, at work, at home, and with my kids, who are much better at asking than I am.

Where I fail: once I think I already know, I stop asking. That’s exactly when the question matters most.
