Belief

The ever-expanding universe

Instead of a god, I believe in what I can see, touch and feel: the universe, a smile, the sun.

The belief

I don’t believe in God. I believe in the ever-expanding universe: the one I can see, touch, and feel. I believe in your smile. I believe in the sun that warms me, gives me energy, and sustains me every day of my life, with consistency, with discipline, without failing.

Where it comes from

I said it into a voice memo early one morning in 2023, probably while driving. It’s the short version of a long road away from religion and toward something I can still call wonder.

How it shows up for me

It’s why I’m grateful for small, physical things: light, food, a kid’s laugh. I don’t need the universe to be about me to feel held by it.

I don’t think less of people who believe in God. Plenty of them live their faith better than I live my values.
