What it is
Discernment is precision of perception. It’s the trained ability to notice fine distinctions: truth and falsehood, signal and noise, gold and fool’s gold.
It’s not the same as judgment. Judgment is reaching a conclusion. Discernment is the noticing that comes before it. It needs honesty with yourself, slow seeing before reacting, and lots of feedback over time.
How it shows up for me
When I’m tired or rushed, my discernment is the first thing to go, and I start reacting to the loudest thing instead of the truest thing. Slowing down is how I get it back.
