High signal

Information that is actually useful to you, compared with the noise around it. What counts depends on where you are.

What it is

“Signal” comes from signal processing: the useful information, compared with “noise,” the irrelevant interference. Think of a radio station full of static versus one that’s crystal clear.

What’s high signal is personal. It depends on your level of development, on what’s useful to you right now.

How it shows up for me

A beginner’s book can be high signal for me in a new field and pure noise in one I know well. I try to judge sources by what they do for me today, not by how impressive they are.
