Value

Precision

Not saying "always" when I mean "sometimes."

What it is

Being exact: in language, in craft, and in technical work. A precise claim says how far it goes and how sure you are. That’s different from polish, which only makes something look finished.

How it shows up for me

It’s one of three principles I named for myself, next to discipline and intention. In writing, it means picking the word that’s true instead of the word that sounds good. In code, it means the thing works the way I said it would. In conversation, it means not saying “always” when I mean “sometimes.”
