What it is
Door-closing is answering a real bid for connection with something technically true and emotionally empty: “no,” “it’s complicated,” “ah, okay.” Nothing in it is a lie. The channel stays honest, and it also stays closed.
It’s quieter than a fight, which is why it’s easy to miss.
How it shows up for me
I do this when I’m tired or guarded. I tell myself I’m being honest, and I am, but I’m also making sure nobody gets in. Opening the door usually just takes one more sentence.
