What it is
Human quality is how a person treats the weak and defenseless, and how they live when nobody is watching. Credentials don’t count toward it. Neither does charm.
It’s the thing I actually want to know about someone, and the thing a résumé never tells you.
How it shows up for me
I wrote it in my journal like this: “You are from Cornell? Ah okay, but, tell me about your human quality, about how you treat the weak and defenseless. Tell me about your values. Tell me how you live your life when nobody is watching.” I hold myself to the same question, and I don’t always like the answer.
