What it is
The standing table is a scheduled, weekly state of the union between partners. It’s on the calendar whether anything’s wrong or not. The point is to give the truth a regular, low-cost place to show up, so it comes out at ask number one, while it’s still small, instead of at ask number ten, when it’s a fight.
Because it’s routine, bringing something up there doesn’t feel like an accusation.
How it shows up for me
I resisted this because it sounded corporate. It turned out to be the opposite: knowing there’s a time and place made the rest of the week lighter.
