The belief
Systems and procedures, as a law of life. If you have them, you can do whatever you want with enough willpower, consistency, time, effort and energy. Talent helps. A system keeps working on the days talent doesn’t show up.
Where it comes from
It’s the one thing my dad taught me, and taught me well: sistemas y procedimientos. In 2016 I wrote that excelling at anything takes discipline and self-enforced systems, and that any task benefits immensely from them.
How it shows up for me
I build a system for almost everything: cooking, money, writing, the way this site gets made. When something keeps going wrong, my first question isn’t “who failed” but “what’s the procedure, and where does it break.”
The risk is that I can build a system for something that needed a conversation instead. Not everything in a family is a process.
