What it is
YHLQMDLG stands for “Yo hago lo que me da la gana,” Puerto Rican Spanish for “I do whatever I feel like.” Bad Bunny made the acronym famous as an album title in 2020.
For me it’s been a personal operating principle: radical autonomy, nobody tells me how to live. It works beautifully until you meet something that really doesn’t care what you want.
How it shows up for me
Forty years of YHLQMDLG met its first absolute limit with a newborn. A baby’s needs don’t negotiate. I’m still autonomous, I think, but now I choose what I give up instead of pretending I don’t have to.
