Readability & word-pattern index

Mean Flesch and mean word-pattern score per quarter. Both lines share one axis; the units are not the same.

How to read the two lines

Flesch reading ease (violet). Higher = shorter words and sentences on the formula. Syllables are counted by vowel groups. English scores often fall between 30 and 70.

Word-pattern composite (marigold). Word-list hits for discourse, curiosity, and reflection, plus a length term (words÷50). Longer posts score higher by construction.

Both series share one scale. A move in one line is not comparable in size to a move in the other.

Notes from the period split

Impact tags are assigned on this page only.

1.High

Language-heuristic totals shifted between early and recent writing

86 vs 19 avg composite (word-list hits + word count term)

This score includes a length term, so longer posts raise it.

2.High

Curiosity word-list hits averaged per post shifted

Recent slice: ~5 matches per post (curated “wonder / explore / research …” stems in raw Markdown)

Hits on a fixed list of curiosity stems in the body.

3.Medium

Reflective language stems averaged per post shifted

Recent slice: ~5 matches per post (curated “learned / realized / chose …” stems)

Hits on a fixed list of reflective stems in the body.

4.High

Tag count change, first third vs last third

10 topics growing vs 10 declining

Count in the last third of the archive vs the first third.

Per-period means

One row per third. Higher Flesch = shorter words and sentences on the formula. The word-pattern column is the composite from the chart above.
